Scott grew up in Los Angeles and moved to Arcata to attend Humboldt State University, where he realized that he has a love for plants and started studying Botany. While going to school he picked daffodils for Sun Valley and other bulb farms in the area in the mid 1970's. During this time Scott became interested in growing lilies. A friend who graduated from Cal Poly suggested that Scott finish his education in Horticulture and they start a business together. When Scott finished school they did start a business growing flowers, scaling bulbs, starting lilies from seed and growing the bulbs out. It went well until one cold February morning everything came to a halt with a big freeze that destroyed their whole crop and caused the business to go under. In the winter of 1990 Scott found Sun Valley again as Lane was looking for a grower. Lane was surprised that there was someone local that knew about lilies and bulb crops. Scott began work for Dave Williams picking freesias. He progressed through the farm working in every department for a few months until Lane thought he was ready to become the greenhouse manager. Scott participated in the next 10 years of rapid growth at Sun Valley, which saw the building of many of the greenhouses and warehouses that we use today. In 2000 Scott had the opportunity to help expand a floral company in Watsonville, California. This new job gave Scott the chance to start an operation from the ground up. He bought the first shovel, tractor, forklift, and planted the first bulb. Scott hired all the employees and organized all the production. After 7 years there, Scott had the opportunity to come back home to Arcata and Sun Valley. Scott is very excited to be back once again and Sun Valley is fortunate to have him back on the team!
