Arcata Open House 2008 - Frequently Asked Questions


Where do I go to pickup my order?
At the General Store. : After you park and enter the farm, the General Store will be to the right as you walk onto the farm. Look for the white and red "General Store" sign under the over-hang at Building E.

Do I have to pay to park?
No. Parking is free! You can stay for the full four hours that we are open, or you can pickup your order and leave.

Do I have to order the bulbs online?
No. You can come to the farm during the Open House and buy the bulbs (cash or credit card), but we cannot guarantee how long a particular variety will be available. Once the bulbs are gone, they are gone. Only orders placed online will be guaranteed for pickup.

Can I order more than 20 bags of any one type?
Yes! For example, if you wanted to order 25 bags of any one type of bulb, enter an order for 20 bags and click "Keep Shopping". Click again on the variety, and enter a second 'order' for 5 bulbs and click "Keep Shopping" or "Checkout". The total of each 'order' will accumulate in your shopping cart.

When do I pay for my order?
After you have put the desired quantity of bulbs in your shopping cart, a minimum of $25.00 in total value, click on "Check Out". You will need to provide payment by credit card for your order before your order will be completed / confirmed.

Can I pay for my online order with a personal check at the Open House?
No. All online orders must be prepaid with a Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express credit card.

When can I pickup my order?
You will need to pickup your order on July 20th, between Noon and 4:00pm.

Will you ship my order to me or hold it until July 21st?
No. All orders must be picked up at the Open House on July 20th, between Noon and 4:00pm. If you are not able to pickup your order, please ask a neighbor, family, or friend to pickup the order for you. Be sure to provide them with your online receipt to confirm they are picking up for you.

I'm placing and paying for the order but can my spouse/friend/family member pick it up?
Yes! If possible, give a print-out of your order to the person who will pick it up. Otherwise, the person picking up your order must have your full name, the order number and a summary of what is in the order. We do not want to give your order to anyone else.

Can I buy more bulbs in a few months?
No. We only sell bulbs at the Open House, which is a one day annual event. Bulbs are not available any other time of year.

Can the bulbs be stored?
The bulbs should be planted as soon as possible, however, if you need to delay planting, the bulbs should be kept in a cool, dry place.

I'm going to mail these bulbs to family/friends. How should I pack them?
Use packing paper or newspaper so that the bulbs will be kept cool and dry.

How do I plant the bulbs?
These are the planting instructions that will be provided with your order. Our growers will be available as well if you have any specific questions.
ASIATIC, ROYAL & ORIENTAL LILIES o PLANT NOW!!! - roots down, sprouts up.
o Cover with 3 inches of soil, in full sun.
o Irrigate well after planting . . . twice weekly thereafter.
o Asiatics may flower in October of this year and will flower abundantly in June of next year.
o Orientals will flower in July or August of next year.
IRIS
o PLANT NOW!!! - roots down, sprouts up.
o Cover with 1 inch of soil, in full sun.
o Iris should flower in October.
